Sapta Sindhu is the old name of Punjab.

The original Punjab region is now divided into several units:

1. West Punjab (now in Pakistan),

2. Area up to the eastern Afghanistan such as the Gandhara/Kandahar region,

3. The Indian states of Punjab, Haryana and Himachal Pradesh.

4. The Indian Union territory of Chandigarh.

5. The regions of Azad Kashmir and Jammu have also been historically associated with the Punjab.

The region of Sapta Sindhu is also called as the region of Indus Valley Civilization.

The river Indus was the part of Sapta Sindhu and the region of Sindh was the part Indus Valley Civilization.
